Bethany Todd, Centre Director, says:
“We are extremely proud to be nominated for this award! Although we have experience in working with hundreds of different children, for the past three years we have worked on developing a relationship with Sparkle Sheffield specifically to gain a real understanding of how we can support our autistic members and their learning. We get to know all our members as individuals and tailor our curriculum and environment in order to enable each child to progress and succeed academically in their own way. The environment of working alongside other children is a fantastic way to help all children interact socially – both with each other and adults.”
Emma Mills, whose son has autism attends the centre says:
“Explore Learning has had a massive impact on Sam. The staff are excellent and really understand Sam. They have helped to build Sam's confidence with asking for help, ability to concentrate and develop his motivation to put effort into his learning. Through Explore Learning, Sam has rediscovered a love of learning again, he wants to go and wants to learn trying to answer more and more questions each time he goes. Because of Explore Learning, he wrote his first ever story!”
The winner of the first ever Sparkle Sheffield Autism Award will be announced at St Paul’s Mercure Hotel, Sheffield City Centre on the 16th June.
