How one twelve year old's letter is helping to change the world

Northumbrian Water’s Innovation Festival 2018

A 12-year-old Durham school pupil’s school project on single use plastics has become the inspiration behind one of Northumbrian Water’s Innovation Festival 2018 sprints.

Hannah Mitchell, from Durham Johnston School, wrote a moving letter to her class-mates as part of an assignment earlier this year.

In it, she talked about the damage that plastics are doing to the planet, the harm they are causing in the ocean and to innocent animals and asked for everyone to work together to help save the world and do their bit.

Northumbrian Water found out about the letter and loved it so much that they decided to surprise Hannah and visit her at school to say thank you for her hard work and her commitment to the plastics cause.
