Stockport band Blossoms visit students at local specialist school

Stockport band Blossoms took time out of their busy schedule to visit students at Ashcroft School in Cheadle on Friday 29 September.

Ashcroft School is run by the Together Trust and provides specialist education and support to children and young people aged eight to 18 years with needs including social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and autism spectrum conditions.

Lead singer Tom Ogden was joined by his bandmates to perform a stripped down version of their single ‘Charlemagne’, before answering questions and leading a music workshop for a small group of students.

During the question and answer session students were provided with insight into how the band was formed and the writing process behind their hits.

The band also passed on advice to the aspiring musicians in the room, and indicated that hard work and dedication are their keys to success in any field, including music. They also revealed their inspirations, which include Oasis, The Stone Roses and The Beatles, and the first gigs they attended - Oasis, Michael Jackson and Steps.

Speaking about their time at Ashcroft, Tom said, “Getting the chance to work with the Together Trust and Ashcroft School was a great experience for us. We especially enjoyed the workshop we did with the students, teaching them the parts to 'Charlemagne'.”

Head teacher of Ashcroft School, Eileen Sheerin, said, “We would like to say a huge thank you to Blossoms for giving up their time to come and work with the young people at Ashcroft School.

Both the students and staff were delighted to be given the opportunity to meet and work with the band. This is a memory that they will have forever.”

Ashcroft School has particular expertise in providing education services for children and young people in public care, within foster care or living in children’s homes.
